Presentation by Phil Barron - Environmentalist - Birds

Phil Barron has twenty-eight years’ professional experience in ornithology, native vegetation management and revegetation. Phil has been running Barron Environmental as a Sole Trader since 2009, with contracts as diverse as weed control in native vegetation for DEWNR & Councils, bird and flora monitoring & ID workshops for DEWNR / NRM organisations and revegetation technical support for Indigenous organisations.
Prior to establishing Barron Environmental, Phil worked for Greening Australia, PIRSA and environmental contractors on a range of landholder-focussed revegetation related projects. More recently, he worked with BHP Billiton as their Olympic Dam resident ecologist. Phil has a degree in Wildlife and Park Management from the University of SA and Certificate in Training and Assessment, Weed and Vertebrate Pest Control. He has completed post-graduate units in Australian Birds and Field Ecology.
Phil's community work includes bird surveying for various programs, Committee member for Friends of Arid Recovery and Committee member of the Roxby Downs Environmental Forum. He has also been a member of Birds SA for over 30 years!

Re birds: its been an interest for most of my life…I look back and recognise my interest when a lady came to visit my Junior Primary School (Mitcham), when I was in grade 2, to give a talk on birds with stuffed birds as props…I probably made a pest of myself as I knew every bird she had with her & didn’t give any one else a chance to answer!! …Thank you, dear Joan Arthur, (now passed).
