On April 1st, Malcolm Keller talked to us on Dahlias.

Malcolm began his presentation with a series of images of both England, and the Continent. In the UK, flower societies appear to concentrate on “Showing” their blooms, and competing for best looking individual flowers of a particular variety.

On the Continent, the emphasis appears to be on landscaping gardens, and showing the beauty of a species when it is seen with other plants as an overall view.

Malcolm then went on to show a range of varieties (images) and some flowers that he’d brought along to the meeting to show the various forms available in the species which originated in Mexico.

He continued with interesting information on growing conditions, required maintenance and propagation, following this up with a discussion on pests and diseases.

The following question and answer segment was very vigorous and many of the audience had their questions answered in Malcolm’s inimitable style.

The entire presentation was most interesting, and “to the point”. Enjoyed by everyone.
