The 2017 Lilium and Bulb show

The annual show week-end has come and gone for 2017.

Once again, a photograph of every bulb and lilium on offer was displayed in a prominent position, and where dormant bulbs were packaged, the label on the package included basic growing instructions and another photograph. This year improved, clearer photographs were used for the bulb packages.

Jeff Boden took out the major award this year. More of his flowers can be seen on his personal page.

About 300 visitors (well down on last year's 800) spent time browsing our exhibits and purchasing a range of various bulbs over the two days that we were open. Unfortunately, even though the lead-up to the show featured cool and often wet weather, we were most unfortunate to have to contend with 35 - 40 degree temperatures during there show itself. Naturally, this (the first day of 40+) had a disastrous effect on attendance!

We had positive comments on the new layout. Once again, the change in layout improved the ease with which visitors were able to move around, and still allowed more blooms to be presented.
The bulb sales table was located on the immediate right of the entrance, fearing a new longer display table. Nearby, photographs by members who were competing in a new photo competition were displayed. At the far end of the venue, stretching the complete width of the room/stage, masses of potted lilies were offered for sale.

Members were presented with their awards at a dinner in the Three Gums restaurant in Hahndorf on February 1st.
