Lilium and Bulb Society of SA Inc. Minutes 5th August 2015

Greg Ruckert spoke on the first part of his Borneo trip. Interesting city and jungle photos wild orangutangs being fed at the shelter.
Many different amorphophalis varieties found, many not yet identified taxonomically; these vary from small plants to huge ones.
Very diverse plant species shown in dense shaded bush with very small pockets of leaf litter supporting quite large plants.

Minutes of meeting held on June 3rd as emailed Moved R Fairweather, that minutes be accepted, seconded C Thomas, carried.
Business arising:-
Stirling market – Barb waiting on advice from organisers. 4th Sunday in August. Need helpers and flowers on day. Confirmation will be emailed to members when received from organisers.
Speaker for Woodcroft no reply from them.

Village Well invitation to meeting. M Jenkins and B Field attended with representatives of other clubs using facilities. Use of areas by groups was explained and any difficulties and suggestions for improvement discussed. A friendly and helpful meeting.
Adelaide Garden and Outdoor Living Show offer of stand.

Enfield Horticultural Society Spring show 12th September 12-5pm Sunday 13th 10-4pm Klemzig community hall.
Invitation to the opening of the Carrick Hill museum and launch of Trevor Nottle’s book on gardening tools. Put on raffle table.

Village Well querying account for July
Village well acceptance of invitation for two members.
Treasurer’s report: In minute book. Moved Fred Dolan, seconded Chris Thomas that report be accepted and accounts paid. Carried.

Show report: Bulbs, some received, some ordered, waiting for Van Diemens late catalogue to order OTs and orientals. Advertising sent by Nancye to magazines. Flyers printed for Stirling Market handouts. More can be printed if needed. Pots, labels and potting soil still to be ordered when amounts known. M Fidge has donated about 70 lilium bulbs.

Trevor Nottle brought a booklet ‘Australian Native Bulbs’ by Attila Kapitany. Well illustrated and available for purchase from the author at 3 Norwich St, Boronia Vic 3155, email gecko@connexus.net.au cost $14.
Phil Schluter promotion of Society discussion paper. Email to members for consideration and suggestions. One suggestion put forward is to affiliate with Victorian bulb Society, Tasmanian Lilium Society and others.
Commercial sales of bulbs are frequently not correctly labelled or are mixed varieties.

Founders’ Cup presented to 2015 winner M Jenkins. Most photos entered were not good enough to judge with too much background or too many plants to decide which to judge. Keep photos simple with only one variety per photo.
Men’s’ Shed jiffy pot maker was demonstrated by M Jenkins. These are available for $20 from the table in the foyer of the Village Well.
