Meeting commenced at 7.45pm

Minutes of meeting held on October 7th as emailed. Moved N. Kopunic, seconded N. Waters "That minutes be accepted as emailed" carried.

A Rich Heritage ‘The Cedars’, Art and Roses. Sun Nov 8th 10am – 5pm. Speakers Allan Campbell, David Ruston, Walter Duncan, Trevor Nottle, George Thomson. Entry $20 children under 15 free.
Open Garden Nov 14 and 15 10am – 4.30pm, ‘Garden of Excentrix’ owned by Lynn Elzinga-Henry. 1 Shurdington Road Crafers.

Aboriginal Plant Uses incorporating Culture and Customs guided walk at Adelaide Botanic Gardens Every Wednesday and Sunday in November 2pm. Gold coin donation. Very interesting and recommended.

There are a number of members who have not yet renewed their membership for 2015/6.
Please have your payment ready for the next meeting as you will not be able to enter the shows until you are financial.

Committee meeting report: Discussion paper

  • November Stirling Market: Barb Field will contact organiser and advise us if we are able to have a stall on November 22nd. We should know by Nov 11th. Helpers are needed to set up (8am) and all day until 4pm packup. Cuts of liliums and other bulbs etc will be needed for the display. Please contact Marg Jenkins if you are able to help in any way.
  • Get children involved in growing bulbs – schools are hard to access so we have decided to sponsor a child to grow bulbs from seeds to encourage interest in gardens. Title ‘An Aspiring Green Thumb’. Give honorary membership for 5 years, give a garden tour of lilium/bulb growers. Supply pots, potting mix, seed. Give kit in poly box. Run a competition to choose child over 3 months. Application form on website. Announce winner at Carrick Hill. G Ruckert will draft idea.
  • Advertising: Hills Weekender Herald will promote our January show, advert $149 and editorial. Kate to handle.
  • Hills radio station 88.9 could interview about the show and advertise.
  • Electronic transfer is possible for membership fees for people registering through the website, Treasurer to follow up with bank.
  • Take photo of Committee and members for history.
  • Show sale bulbs. Nancye will advise all who promised bulbs. All bulbs need to be delivered to Nancye before Christmas for packing and labelling. Any not delivered before this will have to be grown on by the donor for the following year. (Growing and packing bulbs must be shared by other members as Nancye is not able to grow everything.)

  • December Show: 12th 5pm at Kate’s 129 Duffield Rd, Echunga off Meadows/Echunga road (Battunga Road) Bench entries 3 – 4pm. Judging at 4pm sharp. No entries will be accepted after 4pm. Bottles supplied. You must be a financial member to exhibit. New exhibitors will be shown how to table exhibits. Parking is available at the back of the house. Please bring chairs. Show open for viewing 5pm.
  • Catering: the club provides meat for a barbecue, members bring salads, nibbles and desserts to share. Please bring your preferred drinks. Tea and coffee will be supplied.
  • The following salads and desserts have been promised: Salads – Rice, Potato, Noodle, Green, Thai and Greek. Desserts: Baked cheesecake (GF), Fruit salad, Chocolate slice, Pavlova (GF), Berry Cheesecake (GF). Please note several members are celiac so advise if your contribution is gluten free. It would be appreciated if you bring different foods to those already promised. Please let Marg Jenkins know what you are bringing.

  • January meeting Barbecue: will be held at Greg Lawrence’s home, 1018 Greenhill Road Summertown, Wednesday 6th January 6pm, earlier if you want to see all the liliums in bloom. Please bring the same food you took to the December barbecue and your preferred drinks.
  • January Show report: Kate O’Brien convenor. Please contact Kate if you have any questions not explained below or in the show schedule. We need more people to enter the Floral Art Section.

  • Hahndorf Institute 8th, 9th and 10th January: Set up from 12noon Friday 8th. All hands on deck to put up tables, bring in plants etc. Exhibits can be staged as soon as tables are set up (about 2pm), Hall closes at 7pm. Saturday hall opens at 8am for exhibits to be tabled and closes at 9.30am for judging. Helpers on the sales tables can work on set up while judging is in progress. Hall opens to public at 12noon so helpers are needed from 11.45am for entry table (2), plant sales (2-3) and information until 5pm. Saturday evening we meet at 6pm for dinner at The Old Mill for those who wish to eat out after a busy day. Sunday we need helpers to be there by 9.30am ready to open at 10am to staff all stalls etc. until 4.30pm when we close the hall to the public and pack everything up.
  • Trophies: If you have a perpetual trophy please clean and polish it and bring to the hall on Friday.

Class 3 Rhizome - 1st M Jenkins Spuria ‘Mahogany Lord’, 2nd M Jenkins TB seedling. Class 4 Tuber - 1st M Jenkins Alstroemeria. Class 6 Other plant - M Jenkins Strelitzia regina. Class 7 Potted plant - 1st A O’Leary Boophone disticha, 2nd T Reichers Bromeliad neoregelia ‘Carolynae Super red’.
